The following is a sample of the questions which would be utilized in an in-depth interview with the candidate by a Hagberg consultant. The heading above each list highlights the management and leadership characteristics explored by the questions which follow.
Assuming Responsibility and Leadership
The willingness to take charge and exert influence, without being asked to do so.
1. Would you describe yourself as easy-going or aggressive?
How do you react when faced with a work project that appears to be stalled or behind schedule?
When faced with a situation that requires quick action, when the decisions made will affect others, does your approach change? If so, how?
Delegation
Delegating responsibility and authority to subordinates and allowing them discretion in determining how to do their work.
Describe a recent situation where you delegated significant responsibility and authority to a subordinate or coworker. What were your considerations and what did you do?
2. Would you consider yourself a doer or a coach?
How much discretion do you allow subordinates in determining what work to do and how to do their work? What factors do you consider?
Flexibility
Ability to change and modify one's style or approach in order to adjust to changing circumstances or to attain an objective.
Would you describe yourself as more persistent but stubborn, or accommodating, but a bit careless?
Describe a recent situation in which you took a stand on a principle. Why did you decide not to compromise?
Do you prefer dependability and stability or change and flexibility?
