Julie Heifetz, Ph.D.

Dr. Heifetz, Senior Consultant, has worked for over 15 years as a cultural anthropologist on issues of culture, integration and change. In her role at Hagberg Consulting Group, Dr. Heifetz has researched, designed and developed the Cultural Assessment Tool (CAT) with Dr. Richard Hagberg.  Dr. Heifetz's deep understanding for the role of culture in organizations brings value to her work in cultural assessment and change for organizations undergoing mergers and acquisitions and individuals and cultures with differing values and structures.

Dr. Heifetz's expertise in the processes of culture change began with her focus on the acculturation of Southeast Asian refugees from Vietnam and Laos to Los Angeles.  As a university researcher, she worked closely with families, community organizations, and businesses to evaluate and monitor the cultural transition process of Southeast Asian groups to the US, focusing on the compatibility and conflicts of East-West cultural values, family and work life.  Earlier in her career, Dr. Heifetz was the Director of Traditional Arts at the City of Los Angeles Culture Affairs Department, working with ethnic community leadership, the public and private sectors to promote cultural understanding among diverse cultural groups in Los Angeles.

Dr. Heifetz holds a BA in educational psychology, and Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from UCLA.  She currently teaches at the Institute for the Study of Asian Cultures at Pepperdine University.
