Employee Empowerment

A survey of 100 organizations using the Cultural Assessment Tool concluded that where employee empowerment is a reality there is good news and bad news. In the survey "employee empowerment" was defined as employee participation or inclusion, not as pushing decision-making down.

The good news - Organizations with a high level of employee empowerment were also strong in the following areas:
  • quality of decisions
  • commitment to the organization
  • risk taking
  • innovation
  • open discussion of problems
The bad news - However, because employee empowerment is usually based on following the company's established policies and procedures, there is an increase of bureaucracy. It is harder to get short term results. And how things get done becomes as or more important than getting results.
